Today is the day!! I’ve been waiting 3 days for my Amazon order to be shipped and finally the day of delivery has come. I’m physically at work, but my mind is with the Amazon delivery guy. He’ll bring me the trifecta of good puck preparation.
1. WDT
WTF is an acronym I know but WDT? “Weiss Distribution Tool” is a fancy name for a piece of metal with some very thin needles attached to it. Even a monkey could build one from trash found in the streets and yet I payed 10 euros.
This tools will allow me to de-clump my freshly ground coffee. I hope it’ll remove a large part of the channeling I’m seeing.
2. Coffee Distribution tool
It looks like a fidget spinner, but less colorful. This tool levels your coffee by spinning it on the porter-filter after its WDT treatment. It took me an embarrassingly long moment to figure out how to adapt it’s depth. The result looks satisfying though.
3. A stainless steel tamper
The time of plastic is over. Fuck you Gaggia for insulting such a fine machine with such a cheap piece of trash of a tamper. The new one feels heavy and expensive.
Results
I’m making a huge mess with the WDT-tool. I guess I have two left hands. The distribution device is a wonderful toy. And finally, the tamper gives a nice sturdy resistance when pushing it into my puck.
The resulting coffee channels way less. My whole process was already kinda stable, but I feel like a caveman who just discovered copper tools. A new age begins. I still don’t like my coffee though.
